About

Stephen Nolan

Current Role and Professional Experience

"I have a very unusual background for a CFO, in that I did not come up through finance. Instead, I have a varied background: engineer, management consultant, business development, M&A, general manager, and then CFO of four companies before Lanter. That background gives me an understanding of the different challenges faced by folks in our organization, whether in operations or corporate services."

What makes Lanter® special

"I’m a huge fan of businesses that offer a mission critical service to their customers that represents a small portion of the customers’ costs. That gives you a chance to differentiate with quality and reliability, and be paid for that differentiation.  Lanter fits that bill. I was also drawn to the culture at Lanter and its adherence to our non-negotiables."

What’s important to me

'We all spend a lot of time at work, so it’s important to enjoy work. Not every day can be fun – sometimes we have to do things that can really get us down – but overall we have to enjoy our work. I look forward to the challenge of work but, equally importantly, I like when people feel comfortable enough to joke around and have fun – it’s great to hear laughter coming from another office."

Education

"I earned bachelors and masters degrees in engineering and worked as an engineer for four years, so I was once a value-contributing member of society!  Since going to business school, I have been “overhead” for the last 30 or so years. In business school, I focused on strategic and financial management."
